Ingredients

  • 20 ounces refrigerated cheese tortellini
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh parsley or basil chopped, for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9 × 13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the tortellini until just al dente according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan evenly over the top.
  9. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Recipe Notes
  • Cook the tortellini only until al dente to prevent it from becoming too soft while baking.
  • Allow the cream cheese to soften before mixing it into the sauce for a smoother texture.
  • Freshly shredded mozzarella melts better than pre-shredded cheese.
  • The casserole can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated before baking.
  • Freeze before or after baking for up to 3 months.
